What are the lead times for a metal building?

Several factors determine the lead time for a metal building system. Key considerations include whether the order qualifies as a production/fabrication order, which can significantly impact lead times. Additionally, the complexity of the order, available resources in design, manufacturing plant capacity, and material supply chain all play crucial roles in determining lead time.

What is the maximum clear span of a metal building?

The maximum clear span of a metal building depends on the loads, codes, and any items suspended from or placed on the roof. We have seen clear spans reaching up to 250+ feet, depending on the specific requirements.

What is the lifespan of a standing seam roof?

Typically, the finish of a standing seam roof lasts about 25 years, with a Kynar finish extending the lifespan to 25-30 years. In some cases, standing seam roofs have been known to last up to 35+ years.

What is an economical bay spacing?

Bay spacing can significantly influence the cost of a metal building. While several factors affect this, bay spacing between 20-25 feet generally offers the most economical solution.

How do I choose the right insulation for my metal building and ensure code compliance?

Choosing the correct insulation involves understanding your region’s specific code requirements. For instance, code compliance can vary between Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Consulting your architect is crucial for determining the appropriate code for your project’s location. Tools like COMcheck can help ensure your building envelope meets or exceeds code requirements.

Do metal buildings have to use corrugated metal wall panels?

Absolutely not! You can choose any material for your building’s exterior. While corrugated panels are often the most economical choice, options such as EIFS, block, masonry, and insulated metal panels are also available. Just inform us of your preferred wall system so we can provide the necessary support.

How fast can I receive reactions for my building?

Depending on the complexity of the building you can receive preliminary reactions within a couple of days (these preliminary reactions are not to be used for construction).  These prelimarry reactions are just that. “PRELIMINARY” and can be used somewhat as a guide but will not be finalized “final reactions” until the building has been completely engineered and designed.

Can we put roof top units on the roof? What is required?

Yes, you can put rooftop units on the roof.  We will need the dimensions and weights of the rooftop units so that we can design the support system and manufacture the roof curb required to be installed on the roof.

Are multiple cranes allowed to be used in a metal building?

Yes, we can design the support system for the crane.  We would need the specifications of each crane and where they are operating in the building.

Is there a height stipulation for a metal building system and how many floors can tall can a metal building system be?

Although metal buildings are considered low-rise buildings, we have not been approached with a single-story or two-story building height that we could not produce.  Building projects that are more than two stories are better suited to be designed and built with conventional/structural steel rather than a metal building system.

What is the most effective roof pitch to have for a metal building?

Most metal building systems are more economical with a 1/4:12 -1:12 pitch roof; however, the larger the spans and the heavier the loads, it might be more economical to increase the pitch.  Note:  Anything greater than a 3:12 pitched roof can make it more difficult and therefore more expensive for the installers.

Can you use straight columns on a metal building system?

Yes, you can use straight columns; however as you increase the span of your building, tapered columns help with the price point of the metal building.
